OUR HISTORY: Continued
During
that decade, the James E. Roberts Company completed several joint
ventures with the century-old Obayashi Corporation of Japan, including
the Kyoto Inn and Miyako Hotel in San Francisco. At Cody's retirement
in 1978, the Obayashi Corporation bought his share in the company.
With this new partnership, now called James E. Roberts-Obayashi
Corporation, more opportunities were open to the new entity.
In 1983, Larry Smith became President
and assumed co-ownership of the company with Obayashi Corporation.
Under his leadership, Roberts-Obayashi Corporation has completed
many high-profile projects, including: the Fruitvale Transit Village
in Oakland, the International Hotel project in San Francisco,
and the rehabilitation of the historic Hotel Oakland after the
Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.
Today, James E. Roberts-Obayashi
Corporation is one of the most respected builders of multifamily
housing, hotels and commercial structures in Northern California.
We continue to add to our proud history, building on the traditions
that have made us strong.
